Blaxland thrilled with Marechal

Julian Blaxland was thrilled to secure a mare by one of his favourite sires, General Nediym on the third day of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast.

The Sydney-based bloodstock agent and Aquis Farm went to $265,000 to secure Marechal out of Lime Country Thoroughbred's draft.

The seven-year-old mare is a half-sister to Australian Cup winner and early Caulfield Cup favourite Humidor and she is in foal to I Am Invincible.

"I'm a big fan of General Nediym and it's speed on speed with I Am Invincible, he's a wonderful young sire who we've had success with," said Blaxland who has previously purchased two stakes winning sons of I Am Invincible in Invincible Star and Sundance.

"This mare was a two-year-old winner and she was fourth in the Eclipse Stakes, which is a great two-year-old race. There's a lot of depth in her pedigree and Humidor is still running so there was lots of appeal. She's very commercial and she's a lovely physical type too.

"We'll foal her down and she might even go back to I Am Invincible, if we can get in. It looks to be a good mating."
