The Opportunity
Lime Country Thoroughbreds is a premium agistment and consignment operation, known for consistently preparing elite stock that performs strongly in the major sales arenas. As one of Australia's leading consignors, we offer an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced individual to join us as our Yearling Manager in a senior, permanent capacity.
This is a chance to join the Senior Management Team, where you will have direct involvement in leading and refining systems at our superior, cool and light-filled, new facility. This is a career challenge for an individual whose proven expertise deserves the highest level of responsibility across both our agistment and sales divisions.
Key Responsibilities & Challenges
As Yearling Manager, you will report directly to the Owners, driving the division's success by:
Leading and Developing the Team: Managing division staff effectively, ensuring you get the best out of every team member, and fostering strong working relationships across the small team.
Executing and Refining Systems: Overseeing the hands-on preparation of approximately 50 yearlings for three major sales, ensuring all protocols (feeding, handling, exercise) meet Lime Country’s standards of excellence and care.
Essential Farm-Wide Communication: Participating in regular management meetings and maintaining clear, effective communication with the Owners and other farm managers.
Financial & Record Integrity: Ensuring all record keeping for the office is thorough and timely, providing accurate data essential for billing and operational efficiency.
Health and Welfare: Employing exceptional hands-on capabilities in horse care and welfare at all times.
Communication and Composure
The successful candidate must maintain professionalism during peak periods and understand the critical importance of all tasks. This role requires the maturity to proactively seek assistance when necessary and the ability to clearly communicate with the entire team to secure support as required. Maintaining excellent relationships with all managers and staff is paramount.
What You Need to Succeed (Essential Criteria)
Your experience has led you here. This senior challenge requires:
Core Technical Expertise: Excellent hands-on capabilities in yearling preparation and health management, with an exceptional eye for detail.
Proven Management Potential: Demonstrated ability to manage, lead, and mentor diverse teams effectively and fairly, with a strong commitment to growing into the full leadership responsibilities if you don’t already have them.
Teamwork & Self-Awareness: The maturity to proactively seek assistance and the commitment to building strong, collaborative relationships across the farm.
Communication Excellence: Exceptional communication skills for managing internal teams, external clients, vets, sales companies, suppliers and cross-farm manager collaboration.
Organizational Prowess: Ability to be highly methodical in planning, scheduling, and ensuring thorough and timely record keeping for financial purposes.
Please note: Industry experience at a senior level is non-negotiable for this role, though we will invest in the right candidate to build out their remaining leadership skills going forward.
