Bromley celebrates historic sale

Lot 1 Redoute's Choice x A Real Princess filly
Lot 1 Redoute's Choice x A Real Princess filly

Last year John Bromley was watching the sale of his Savabeel colt out of A Real Princess in Sydney from his home in Taupo, New Zealand.

When the colt was knocked down for $650,000, the highest priced yearling he had ever sold, he was worried about what his neighbours might make of his celebrations.

This year he was ringside to watch the sale of A Real Princess’ Redoute’s Choice filly, a decision motivated partly by his absence last year but more so the novelty of selling the first lot at Inglis’ first sale at the new Riverside Stables Complex.

“I must have been told by five people before the sale today that it was a shame that she was lot one because often a sale can take a while to warm up but the other side of that coin is the fact that she was lot one in the first sale at the new complex which is quite a historic occasion.

“I had to keep my decorum this year as I was sitting in the sale ring on the Inglis table,” said Bromley who was very pleased to see this filly sell for $550,000.

She was purchased by agent Angus Gold for Shadwell Stud Australasia, who also purchased the half-brother last season, he is now named Hadeer and he is in the stable of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

“I love the filly,” said Gold. “She’s a fantastic athlete and I thought she was one of the classiest fillies on the ground, we’ve had a little bit of luck with Redoute’s Choices and we were really keen to buy her so until I’m proven wrong I’m very happy.

“Jo and Greg do a fantastic job and she was presented beautifully.”

Bromley will sell another colt by Choisir out of Shinko Princess on Wednesday as Lot 355 out of Lime Country Thoroughbred’s draft.

“Greg and Jo’s professionalism stands out to me, they’re hard workers and they’re very good horse people,” said Bromley of Lime Country Thoroughbred owners Jo and Greg Griffin.

“I like to support young people because I’ve had success doing that in the past and most have them have a mortgage or a young family and you know they are going to work hard for you.”
