Ella Supero, purchased by Lime Country Thoroughbreds

Former New Zealand operation Lime Country Thoroughbreds, which is now based near Bowral in the NSW Southern Highlands, went to $150,000 to purchase an Exceed Excel (Danehill) mare from the same family of Group One winner Yankee Rose (All American).
The placed mare Ella Supero (Exceed And Excel), who was catalogued as Lot 654 and offered by Rushton Park, was sold in foal to Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Vancouver (Medaglia d'Oro).
Ella Supero is a half-sister to New Zealand Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Redoute's Dancer (Redoute's Choice) and Condesaar (Xaar) who is the dam of the David Vandyke-trained ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and ATC Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Yankee Rose.
Yankee Rose was also runner-up to Capitalist (Written Tycoon) in the Golden Slipper Stakes and third behind Winx (Street Cry) in last year's Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) as a three- year-old. Ella Supero's third dam Condessa (Condorcet) won five races, two of them as a juvenile, and also took out the Yorkshire Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f).
Purchased for $9,500 at the 2014 Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale by Damian White Bloodstock, Ella Supero has had one foal, a rising two-year-old colt by Unencumbered (Testa Rossa), who was passed in for $20,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale earlier this year.
"A lot of people look at trading weanlings, but we focus on trading mares and the weanlings out of them, so she fits into that bracket for us," Lime Country Thoroughbreds proprietor Jo Griffin told ANZ Bloodstock News.
"We sold a few mares and weanlings under that model at the Gold Coast (Magic Millions National Sale) and we did really well, but we only managed to buy one mare as it was a really strong sale."
Griffin said Ella Supero fitted the Lime Country Thoroughbreds trading model.
"We were really happy to get her with two Group One winners close up in the family and being an eight-year-old with her second foal in the belly who is by a first season sire who was a champion. The Exceed And Excel factor was important for us too as a broodmare sire," she said.
"She was a nice and correct mare and she was a good colour and I think the Vancouver mating is a good one."
Griffin said she and her husband Greg Griffin were delighted with the way their operation was going since relocating from New Zealand.
"We are loving it. It was a big move, but we have been lucky that the farm (Think Big Stud) was established and we've got clients already there, with new clients joining us," she said.
"At the farm we are sitting around 150 horses, but it is a pretty diverse operation with the breaking and pre-training barn as well as spelling."
She indicated they would travel to the European breeding sales later this year in a bid to secure more trade mares suitable for the Australasian market.
"We will be staying in touch with those worldwide trends and be looking for new opportunities as our business continues to grow," she said. - ANZ Bloodstock News
